WEBINAR: “Social poverty: Vulnerable families and the family justice system”

The ALC are pleased to announce the date for this webinar, that was due to take place in March this year but postponed due to the pandemic. As we continue to facilitate virtual webinar’s we are delighted that our original speakers will join us on 17 September 2020.

Speakers include Nkumbe Ekaney QC who has acted for minority and/or immigrant parents accused of ritualistic and other abuse and Chris MacDonald, Children’s Guardian at CAFCASS who has particular expertise on gang culture and county lines.  The event will be chaired by Her Honour Judge Sapnara from East London Family Court with a Q&A session with the Panel being joined by ISW Anna Gupta. Anna Gupta is Professor of Social Work in the Department of Social Work, School of Law and Social Sciences, Royal Holloway University of London. She is a registered social worker and throughout her academic career has maintained a link to practice in the family courts, initially as a Children’s Guardian, and then as an ISW/ expert witness.

This event focuses on the challenges faced by practitioners working in the family  justice system.  Looking at the impact of social poverty particularly on BAME communities.  This is also a great opportunity for multi-disciplinary sharing of experiences and exploration of strategies to address those issues.

We welcome questions from webinar attendees in advance, and there will also be an opportunity to ask questions on the day.
